Early Victorian sterling silver lidded saucepan
Maker: Joseph (II) and Albert Savory trading as A B Savory & Sons (mark entered January 1835).

Crest and Arms: PORTER impaling RUSSELL for Henry Porter (1791-1858) of Winslade House, Clyst St Mary, Devon and Demerara, Guyana and his wife, Rose Aylmer Russell.
Silver was often used for cooking utensils in 18th and 19th century kitchens due to the hygienic properties of this metal. To-day, antique silver saucepans are used for serving vegetables and sauces in the dining-room by some aristocratic and other families. This may be whimsical but has the advantage of keeping the contents hot.

Very good condition and patina. A few minor scratches due to use over the years. Very clear hallmarks. Makers' mark just slightly rubbed. Excellent and elegant engraving of coat of arms and crest.
