WILLIAM IV Pair of Sterling Silver Knife Rests by Joseph Emanuel. London 1833
WILLIAM IV Pair of Sterling Silver Knife Rests by Joseph Emanuel. London 1833
Beautifully detailed pair of sterling silver William IV knife rests of baluster form with shell terminals.
Maker: Joseph Emanuel. London 1833.
The full set of hallmarks as well as the makers mark is clearly struck on the body of each rest. Each finial has three shells grouped in a very decorative manner.
The shell finials add a refreshing change from the standard, basic knife rest form and the shells are in tune with the rococo revival fashion which was in vogue at that time.
