GEORGE III Sterling Silver IRISH Hook-End Soup Ladle by Michael Keating. Dublin 1777.
GEORGE III Sterling Silver IRISH Hook-End Soup Ladle by Michael Keating. Dublin 1777.
Attractive Irish GEORGE III sterling silver hook-end soup ladle.
Maker: Michael Keating. Dublin 1777.
The bowl is shell shaped with a decorative flame design on the reverse where it joins the stem. The hallmarks are struck on the reverse of the stem and are slightly rubbed but clearly legible, while the makers mark is struck twice and is very clear. The lower makers mark is struck in such a way as to cover the lap join. The base of the stems reverse has a contemporary engraving of R over E I with four dots in a diamond design in-between. The front of the ladle has contemporary engraved decoration of flowers and leaves on the upper half and incorporates an engraved contemporary family crest. This ladle is of very good weight and could be used for purposes other than soup.
