GEORGE III IRISH Sterling Silver Hook End Soup Ladle by John Loughlin. Dublin 1765.

£1,050

Decorative GEORGE III sterling silver shell bowl hook end soup ladle with a typically Irish design.
Maker: John Loughlin. Dublin 1765.

The ladle is of a good weight with an attractive shell bowl and a hook end at the tip of the stem. The end half of the stem is engraved with flowers and leaves and a curved cartouche enclosing a contemporary family crest of a lion passant looking left. The reverse is engraved with stylised acanthus leaves at the base of the bowl and the owners initials, Mc I.D below.
The full set of hallmarks are stamped at the base of the stem while the makers mark is slightly mis-struck but legible.
This is an excellent ladle of a very generous weight with soft lines and beautiful engraving, which has many uses.
