Chunky 17th century gold posy ring made of a very high grade of gold. This ring was probably made in circa 1760 during the reign of Charles II. The exterior is a wide, plain band with a slightly curved shape. The contemporary inscription on the inside of the ring is very clear and reads:-
When love doth remayne Parting is vayne.
The name posy was derived from the amatory inscription which this type of ring bears which was usually in rhyme or poesy. These rings were usually given by both men and women as an expression of regard, friendship, attachment or love. Their popularity peaked in the 16th and 17th centuries and by the 18th century most posy rings were used as wedding rings.

Very good condition with a few slight normal signs of wear. The contemporary 17th century script inside the ring is clearly legible.
