Beautiful WILLIAM III silver gilt scent flask with screw-off stopper and of good gauge of silver.
Maker: Pierre Labrosse. London circa 1700.
This maker was accredited in an article on Huguenot refugees from Anjou written by Brian Beet in the Silver Society Journal, Autumn 1998, pages 12-15.
The flask stands on a pedestal base and is styled in a flattened baluster form with Chinoiserie panels of figures and foliate decoration and screw-off stopper which fits very tightly.
The maker's mark is stamped on the base of the flask and is very crisp.
This is a very striking and unusual piece and could well be used today.
Provenance:
A Private collection.
Alastair Dickenson Ltd.
Height: 2.4 inches (6.2cm)
Weight: 0.9 troy ounces. (28 grams)
Very good, although there is some wear to the gilding and to the features. Commensurate with age.
