Particularly large George II sterling silver citrus strainer of good weight.
Maker: William Kidney . London 1744/45
The large size of the strainer makes it excellent for straining all types of citrus and soft fruits to eliminate the pips and is used alongside punch bowls. The piercing of the bowl is very decorative and the partly ribbed handles are robust.
Lemon and orange strainers were very popular in the 18th Century.
The full set of hallmarks and maker's mark are on the outer side of the bowl under the rim. All the marks are rubbed and are just legible, the date mark we believe to be 1744/45.
Length: 14 inches (35.6cm)
Bowl diameter: 5.5 inches (14cm)
Weight: 10 troy ounces (311 grams)

Very good, some slight dents in the base of the bowl which is commensurate with it's age and use.
