Attractively simple and well made sterling silver butter dish and butter knife.
Maker: Leslie Durbin. London 1954 (Dish) 1957 (Knife).
This dish has an oblong form with castellated border and with a removable frosted glass liner. The simplicity of the design gives added importance to the border.
The full set of hallmarks and maker's marks are clearly stamped on the base of the butter dish and on the handle of the reverse of the butter knife.
Maker Leslie Durbin: Following his time as an apprentice to Omar Ramsden and graduating from the Central School of Arts, by the 1950's and 1960's he was considered to be the UK's best known silversmith and received high profile commissions.
