GEORGE I Set of 6 Sterling Silver Hanoverian Rat-Tail Teaspoons by Richard Scarlett. Circa 1725.
Early and charming set of 6 GEORGE I sterling silver Hanoverian rat-tail teaspoons.
Maker: Richard Scarlett. Circa 1725.
The elongated almond shaped bowls are very attractive as is also the pronounced ridge on the front of the stem which is often seen on early Hanoverian designs.
The reverse of the bowls have a long rat-tail. The hallmarks and makers mark are somewhat rubbed but are legible and the end of each stem is engraved with contemporary initials A over G B.
These spoons would be perfect demi-tasse but the slight wear on the left-hand side of some of the bowls would indicate that they were not just used for stirring coffee.
Length: 4.4 inches (11.2cm)
Weight: 1.8 troy ounces (56 grams) - the six.
