George II Sterling Silver Hanoverian Pattern Shell Bowl Soup Ladle by Elias Cachart. London 1752.
George II Sterling Silver Hanoverian Pattern Shell Bowl Soup Ladle by Elias Cachart. London 1752.
Imposing George II Sterling Silver Hanoverian Pattern Shell Bowl Soup ladle of good weight.
Maker: Elias Cachart. London 1752.
The full set of hallmarks are clearly stamped at the base of the back of the stem, while the contemporary family crest of an armoured right arm bent at the elbow and holding a broken arrow is engraved at the tip of the stem's reverse. The shell bowl has a double drop at the base and the fluting is very close together.
This ladle would be most versatile today for serving punch etc. since it has a very long stem.
