Pristine and beautifully made GEORGE III sterling silver shell claret label.Made by Benjamin Smith II. London 1807.The shell is cut in such a way that it sparkles as a background to the plain bar on which on which the word 'CLARET' is cut out. The hallmarks were stamped before 'CLARET' was added and therefore are slightly hidden in parts but leaving them totally legible.The effect of the engraving on the shell together with the plain bar make this label extremely attractive.Benjamin Smith II was described as 'an Ingenious Chaser'. Through various recommendations and introductions, he worked with Matthew Boulton and together with Storr, he was manufacturing entirely for Rundell and Bridge.
