GEORGE III Silver Mounted Shell Cream Jug . Circa 1780
8804
Very interesting 18th century cream jug consisting of a shell mounted with three silver shell shaped feet and a shell and scroll silver handle. These silver items are attached to the inside of the shell with silver screws, making the inside food-safe.
It is quite probable that this shell was displayed in a Gentlemans Curiosity Cabinet but in circa 1780 it was mounted with the silver feet and handle so that it could be used. It would also make a charming receptacle for flowers. An almost identical gravy boat has been recorded. This item would make an excellent conversation piece.
