Extremely attractive set of 6 Elizabethan Pattern Victorian ice cream spoons with matching serving spoon.

Maker: Hunt & Roskell. London 1889.

The Victorians were very proud of their ice cream making prowess and this is reflected in the shape of these spoons. The bowls of the spoon as well as that of the serving spoon are cleverly shaped with a ridge designed to keep the ice cream in place.

The full set of hallmarks is clearly stamped on the reverse of the stem and a family crest of a seated hound facing left is engraved at the top of each stem. The intricacy of the Elizabethan pattern crisply decorating these spoons adds to the sense of their importance. Desert services were often made in a more ornate pattern than the rest of the tableware and these would grace any dining table.
