George I Pap Boat
George I Pap Boat
Elegant and plain sterling silver George I pap boat. London 1726 by Francis Garthorne. The body has an oval, shallow bowl shape with a flat base and one side of the body is elongated into a marked lip ending in a gentle point. The full set of hallmarks are struck on the base of the bowl and are very clear with the exception of the first letter of the makers mark which is rubbed.. However, enough of the first letter can be seen to identify the punch as that of Francis Garthorne. See Grimwade p.254, No.3570
