Very elegant George III sterling silver 60 piece Old English table service, of particularly good weight. All by Eley, Fearn and Chawner. London 1808 - 1813. The original initials or crests have been very carefully erased from each piece.
Maker :- Wm. Eley, Wm. Fearn & Wm. Chawner
William Eley I, William Fearn and William Chawner II were in partnership from 1808 to 1814. All three were very prolific and skilled spoonmakers and were part of that chain of excellent spoonmakers which went back to Ebenezer Coker in the mid eighteenth century and even earlier and forward, through the Chawners, to George Adams in the Victorian era. The Old English pattern is the lightest table service pattern made in the UK. However, it is partly this feature which gives the pattern such grace. The simple lines ensure that one would never tire of seeing it on the table and also means that it will blend well with any tablecloth or plates in use. This particular service reflects all the best features of the Georgian Old English pattern.

Very good, with good hallmarks. The fork tines are even and not short and the silver is of good gauge
