GEORGE III Set of Six Spiral Handled Teaspoons by Thomas & Wm. Chawner.

£865

Unusual set of six GEORGE III sterling silver spiral handled teaspoons.
Makers: Thomas & William Chawner. London circa 1770.

The bowl of the teaspoon is fashioned with a fluted v-shaped design which is repeated on the reverse. The spiral handle ends in a plain finial on which is engraved a contemporary family crest of a right hand holding an oak tree branch bearing acorns.
The reverse of the finial is very clearly stamped with the lion passant and the makers mark.
These are a very unusual set of teaspoons made by one of the most famous silver-making families of the 18th Century.
