Very emotive medal of the execution of Louis XVI of France by Conrad H.Kuchler and Ponthon. Struck in 1793. The medal is made of lightly bronzed copper and still has its original protective shells. Obv:- Conjoined busts of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Legend:- LUD XVI D: G.FR.ET NAV.REX.MAR.ANT.AUSTR.REG. FATI INIQUI. Signed on truncation C.H.K.. Rev:- Scene of the place of execution, Place de la Concorde, overflowing with onlookers and soldiers in the foreground. Legend:- CRINEMQUE ROTANTES SANGUINEUM POPULIS ULULARUNT TRISTIA GALLI. In exergue:- XXI JANUARIUS ANNO MDCCXCIII.
