Extremely Fine, almost mint, 18 ct gold ladies golfing competition prize medal from The Cannes Golf Club. The medal was struck in 1913 in Birmingham by Henry Jenkins & Sons and presented in 1914. Obverse:- A shield with the monogram CGC in decorative style, backed by a trophy of golf clubs. Above the shield is the Russian crowned two-headed eagle, holding globe and sceptre.
Beneath the shield is a riband with the legend Founded 1891.
Reverse:- On band around rim:- * The Cannes * Golf Club.
Engraved in centre:- LADIES/ GOLD MEDAL/ 1914/ WON BY/ J. B. MARTIN

The Cannes Golf Club (now Golf de Cannes-Mandelieu Old Course) is the oldest course on the Riviera. It was founded by Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich of Russia in 1891 who was a first cousin of Alexander III of Russia. In that same year he married Countess Sophie of Merenberg, a morganatic marriage that caused his exile from Russia and so shocked his mother that she suffered a fatal heart attack. After his exile, the Grand Duke Michael and his family lived mainly in England, France and Germany. His two daughters married into the British aristocracy.
