Attractive and well balanced WILLIAM III sterling silver trefid spoon.
Maker: William Scarlett. London most probably 1696.

The base of the bowl is joined to the handle with a very crisp beaded rat-tail. The maker's mark is stamped very clearly on the reverse of the stem, while the leopard's head is also clear and the date mark is slightly rubbed, possibly 1683 or 1696. The lion passant has been rubbed but is just visible. The initials B over TT are engraved on the reverse top of the stem.
William Scarlett was one of the most prolific spoon maker's at the time and his mark is a sign of quality.
