Victorian Small Ladle with Lip by the Lias Brothers

SOLD

Reference
8704
Charming Victorian small ladle with lip of substantial weight.
Makers: Henry John Lias and Henry John Lias. London 1851.

The bowl is shell shaped with a lip on the left and has a light wash of gilding on the inside. The cast stem is very attractively decorated with leaves inter-twined and a vacant cartouche.
The full set of hallmarks is clearly stamped on the reverse of the bowl.
The Victorians were very adept at combining good design with practicality. The lip makes this ladle excellent for pouring and the weight and design of the handle is well balanced.
