GEORGE III Small Sterling Silver Marrow Scoop by John Lambe.

£ 250

Charming GEORGE III small sterling silver marrow scoop.
Maker: John Lambe. London circa 1780.

A scoop this size with makers mark only would probably have come out of a travelling etui.

These scoops were often used during the rule of Queen Anne, marrow was then deemed to be quite a luxury and only the rich could afford meat on a regular basis.
The narrow channel of the scoop allowed for the marrow to be removed from the bone and silver was used for reasons of hygiene.
