£495

Elegant George III sterling silver shell-bowled soup ladle. Made in London in 1790 by George Smith III and William Fearn. The bowl is a festive shell shape and the end of the Old English pattern stem has a contemporary engraved family crest of two arms holding up a fruiting vine branch. The very crisp hallmarks are stamped on the reverse of the stem.

This soup ladle would fit in with any table service pattern. The decorative shell bowl enables it to be used for serving fruit salad or punch as well as soup. It would make an ideal gift. George Smith and William Fearn were excellent and prolific spoonmakers. They were part of the dynasty of excellent spoonmakers which stretched from the last quarter of the 18th century to the middle of the 19th, encompassing the Eleys and the Chawners.
