Smart GEORGE III set of 12 sterling silver handled table knives and 12 sterling silver handled cheese knives in a wooden box.
Maker: Patrick Robertson. Edinburgh 1770.
The handle of these knives are of an unusual shape and make for a very comfortable grip. The crest showing a mermaid holding a mirror in one hand and a comb in the other with the Scottish Battle Cry above are clearly engraved on the end of the handles. This was a contemporary crest and motto and remains a valid Murray device.
The knife handles have the makers mark stamped on one side and on the other side the Edinburgh thistle denoting the town assay mark for sterling silver.
CREST: MURRAY - DUKE OF ATHOLL
MOTTO: TOUT PREST
These knives are extremely robust and attractive.
Length: Table knives 10.6 inches (27cm) - Cheese knives 8.6 inches (22cm)

Very good although there is slight damage to three of the handles which is commensurate with their age and includes a split in a join, which is also age related. The blades are extremely sharp and in good condition with one cheese knives showing wear... please see all images.
