GEORGE ADAMS. Victorian Palm Pattern Asparagus Tongs. London 1878.
8577
Very rare Palm pattern sterling silver asparagus tongs made in London in 1878 by George Adams.
The bright-cut palm design stands out well against the plain silver background.
The end of the tongs is engraved with a contemporary family crest enclosed within a clansman belt which is inscribed with the family motto Frangas non flectes of possible Irish origin.
The Palm pattern is a very rare mid-nineteenth century pattern which was first produced by Chawner & Co. and is in their pattern book.
The full set of hallmarks is clearly stamped on the inside of the handle.
Length: 10.1 inches (25.7cm)
Width of tongs: 1.2 inches (3.04cm)
